While playing hard to get may have worked for you in high school, most men do not want to chase. That is unless they are completely smitten with you. Men take it as a sign of disinterest when women... gasp.... feign disinterest.
It is a repeated theme that men want straight talking even dealings with women. They want honesty and directness. Playing games prolongs the time until you are actually dating. It also cuts into the term of your dating experience. Time you could have spent dating, you spent playing games. Male-female relationships all end either in death or departure, so you are just cutting time off the front end.
