It has been said that women like the strong silent type. That is all well and good, however it is imperative that you two talk about your respective pasts. This is a conversation that should not be had when just dating casually. This is a conversation to be had right before you think it might be serious.
A friend of mine was dating this guy. They were pretty serious in her mind, however he refused to discuss his previous marriage. So here she was dating a divorced man and had no inkling as to why his marriage ended or what baggage he was carrying from it.
If he does not feel comfortable telling you the gory details, then he is not ready for true intimacy. I am not saying that you interrogate him. I say that you fix a pot of coffee and mutually disclose why each and every one of your significant relationships failed. All relationships will fail until they do not.
