I do not know where it got started, but this rumor persists to this day. It is not true. Men can even look at a beautiful woman and not think about sex. We do not picture them naked. We do not undress them with our eyes. There is a visual signal that she is pleasant to look at and that is all. We may want to ask her out which dependent on our relationship status.
Men in a relationship can honestly see a beautiful woman and think "she is pretty" and not think any more about it.
