Men really do not have a problem when the woman chooses to pay the tab. If the woman has earned her money, it is more acceptable than if a woman has just gotten her money. Often times college girls are living off of their parents' money. When she pays for a man it may signal that she is looking down on him. In addition, if she is spends the money with reckless abandon then it signals that she is not financially responsible which is a red flag to long-term commitment.
When in doubt, splitting the check is always a safe bet. If he insists on paying then let him.
The thing to watch out for is if the guy expects you to always pay. If it is one thing if your tastes are above his budget. It is another thing if his tastes are above his budget or he is a slacker.
