Guys are stupid in the sense that by having an affair or cheating they are jeopardizing something that they do not want to jeopardize. They generally have a good relationship with the person that they are cheating on. There is just something that the guy finds lacking in that primary relationship and not in the extra-relational one.
If given a choice between having the affair and maintaining the primary relationship, most guys would choose the latter.
