It Boggles My Mind

I work in marketing. I have to travel quite a bit. And I am fortunate enough that when I travel that I go to cities where I know people. I have a business trip coming up tomorrow and I asked a female friend to meet me for lunch. I asked via e-mail. She accepted via the same format. 75 minutes later she calls me to cancel. She just got back from the doctor and is sick as a dog. She could barely speak.

Here are the things that plague me:
  1. Did she not feel bad when she sent the original e-mail?
  2. How is it that a doctor's visit could take so little time? Drive there and back, wait, and then visit the doctor long enough to be prescribed something?
  3. Why a phone call if she was having problems speaking?
