Men have for centuries chased after wounded birds and in the movies when the woman realizes that she has pushed away a decent man things get good again. It does not happen in real life. When he gives up his pursuit, he really gives up his pursuit. By the time that you realize that he is decent and good, possibly even "the one", he is gone for good. Men are not won over by you telling him that you now realize that you were wrong.
It is a cold harsh reality that is not preventable, as best as I know.
This is just a nugget of knowledge to be tucked away when and if you ever suffer from wounded bird syndrome.
