Thank You For Speaking For My Gender And Setting Back Open Communication

One of the things that most unnerves me is when a woman speaks for malekind.  In a lot of these instances broad false generalizations and stereotypes are presented as fact.

A female friend of mine did just that last night.  She has no psychological training though she does work in the mental health industry.  She has a Masters' in Christian Education with an emphasis in Christian Counseling.  None of her instructors have Psychology degrees of any kind.  They do have degrees from other seminaries that allow them to teach classes at other seminaries.  She has taught psychology at an adjunct facility of a community college.   I do know that if you have a teaching degree in social sciences then you can teach psychology and sociology along with history and political science.

The state of our public education system aside, my friend made broad false generalizations which were taken as correct as she led a Bible study on sex and the Bible.  Being one of  only two males in the room, I offered the male perspective and was told I was wrong.  The only other male in the room was still in shock because the accompanying DVD used clinical terms for body parts.

She made broad statements such as the only reason men get married is so that they can have a physical relationship.  This is what a Christian woman is teaching.  As a Christian and a male, I was utterly appalled.  She also expressed the widely held believe that men are visually attracted to women, whereas women are attracted with their hearts.  Evolutionary psychology has actually disproved this theorem as false.  Can I fault her for relying on old information? No.  Can I fault her for shooting me down by offering evidence that has been found since she has completed her education? Yes.

What I was looking for was an open dialog about the topic at hand.  What resulted was a "who-knows-better-whom" fight.  Because I am not an expert on men, in the eyes of the women present, my thoughts were pushed aside.  Having a male mind, I figured I might know what crosses a male mind.

If anyone has any idea as to why this friend of mine was not open to my input please tell me.  This was part one of a four week discussion.  Should I go back or am I wasting my time?
