More and more I am hearing horror stories about delving into the world of online dating. They are not that much different than dating stories from the real world except for the fact that a computer set them up on a date rather than running into someone at the gym or a bar.
So who is to blame for incompatibility on dating and matchmaking sites? The sites put the blame squarely on you. They have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and years of research on their algorythm. The people behind it have years, if not decades, of experience. So the site says that your profile is bad or that you filled out the survey wrong.
Some sites will offer you free help with your profile or let you retake the survey. One site offered me their ultra elite premium service, which only costs five figures a year, after I could not find anyone compatible despite the hundreds of women they matched me with. The service would narrow down the matches to a few women. I was what they would call a super match and they wanted me to join one of their services. The odd thing was that they offered me a glance at the photos of my matches that most nonpaying members do not get to see after I declined to be a charter member of the aforementioned service. I had a 48 hour pass and I utilized every moment of that. It deserves a post of its own. The short version is I went from several hundred matches to about 4 in 48 hours with appearance being a big part of that.
However, dating and matchmaking sites are only as good as their membership base. I live in a region where most of the women are not physically my type. The sites cannot help that. They can only do so much. I am eternally in the process of moving so I signed up for another service and used my potentially new zip code. The matches were fewer, however more fitting. They were a lot better than the other site, however no golden ring. Is this one site so much more superior to the other that they can deliver me a better quality of woman or was the place I am moving to filled with more attractive women?
The sites cannot edit user profiles because they are misleading. They can kick off someone married or something along those lines, however white lies are not editable. A women who says she eats healthy and works out cannot be kicked off because she really weighs 250 pounds. A woman who says she is single when she is really divorced can be chalked up to a mistake. She could have clicked the wrong button.
There are a few things that are in the sites control and the blame for those rests solely on their shoulders. Every been matched up with someone who lives like 200 miles away and you clearly listed a range of 25 miles? I have. I double-checked and sure enough it says 25 miles and yet I am getting match up with people over 300 miles away. One of the biggest complaints is paying members getting matched with non-paying members. An option to show only paying members is a good idea. And then let the non-paying member be able to matched with everyone. Another thing that is important for me is pictures. Because I am jaded, I would much rather a free photo weekend then a free contact weekend to entice me to join. If I can see that this woman that I am matched with is physically attractive then I will pay $20 a month for the opportunity to meet her. However, if I see that my matches are not pretty to me then I am just wasting their time and mine.
